Book Opening

See and be Seen: Saratoga in the Victorian Era

by Hollis Palmer

Hollis’ tenth book will be released at an open house at the Batcheller Mansion on Thursday October 28th.

The open house is from 4:15 until 7:30.  The public is invited to enjoy free guided tours of the mansion and listen to discussions led by Hollis.  The three family bedrooms have recently been refurbished and the tours will be a treat for those who have not visited in the last two months.

The books will be on sale for $19.95.  Anyone who purchases a book that evening will receive a free copy of the book Victorian Rules.  Victorian Rules was chosen from among Hollis’ other nine books because it has two stories that took place in Saratoga during the period covered in the book See and be Seen.

The half-hour discussions will be:

4:30: The First Golden age 1855- 1865 (when hotel life reigned)

5:15: The Rise of the Hotels 1865-1876

6:00: The Second Golden age 1876 – 1886 (the age of hotels)

6:45: The “Decline Begins,” or “It is all Political” 1895 - 1910

Additional events that weekend:

At 4:30 on Friday, October 29th, Hollis will be leading a walking tour of North Broadway.  The tour is sponsored by the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau and is free to the public.  The tour is a loop, starting and ending in front of Crafters Gallery (429 Broadway.)  For those interested in purchasing See and be Seen, Hollis will be signing books at Crafters Gallery before and after the two hour tour.

At 2:30 on Saturday October 30th, Hollis will be leading a second walking tour of North Broadway.  This tour, also sponsored by the Saratoga Convention and Tourism Bureau and is free to the public.  The tour starts and ends in front of Crafters Gallery (429 Broadway.)  For those interested in purchasing See and be Seen, Hollis will be signing books at Crafters Gallery before and after the two hour tour.

On Sunday, October 31st, Halloween – Hollis will probably be walking around downtown dressed as George Batcheller - but he is really resting!!!
